چکیده

ABSTRACT Safflower is a crop of high economic value with oil concentration in its seeds and great industrial versatility, besides various benefits to human health. As other agricultural crops, it common store safflower make available different periods the year and, due hygroscopic characteristics, studies evaluating effect temperature air relative humidity on moisture content become relevant. Thus, objective present study was determine water adsorption isotherms analyze their thermodynamic properties. Moisture contents 6.5, 6.9, 7.3, 7.7, 8.3 9.1% (dry basis) were obtained by under controlled conditions (30 °C) (90%). The indirect static method at temperatures (10, 20, 30 40 °C). increased, for same content, there an increase activity constant activity, values equilibrium decreased increasing temperature. Chung-Pfost model showed best fit describe phenomenon hygroscopicity seeds. properties influenced seeds, reducing energy necessary absorption product adsorption, enthalpy-entropy theory enthalpy.

Detecting and quantifying the adventitious presence of transgenic seeds in safflower, Carthamus tinctorius L.

Safflower ( Carthamus tinctorius L.) is currently being developed as a platform for the production of novel proteins. Methods for detecting and quantifying transgenic safflower are needed to ensure seed quality and to monitor for its adventitious presence. We developed and compared three methods of assaying for transgenic safflower presence in conventional seedlots: field bioassays, enzyme-link...

Inhibitory effects of active compounds isolated from safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) seeds for melanogenesis.

In order to develop a new skin whitening agent, safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) seeds were evaluated for melanogenesis inhibitory activity and its active principles were identified following activity-guided isolation. The 80% aqueous methanol extract and ethyl acetate fraction from safflower seeds showed a significant inhibition for mushroom tyrosinase. Three active compounds, N-feruloylser...

Quality evaluation of safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) cultivars

Abstract Safflower is a minor oilseed crop in Australia where the market is dominated by canola, cottonseed and sunflower. Safflower however offers an alternative oilseed crop in marginal areas. This study was designed to evaluate current safflower lines and to determine their potential value both for edible oil and meal for animal feed. Two sets of samples were analysed. The first was a collec...

Saffloroside, a new flavonoid from flowers of Carthamus tinctorius L

From the flowers of Carthamus tinctorius L., cultivated in Samara Region (Russian Federation) there was isolated a new flavonoid, named us saffloroside, which has the structure of 7-О--Dglucopyranoside of 3, 7, 31, 41-tetrahydroxy-5-methoxyflavone (azaleatin). The chemical structure of saffloroside there was elucidated by means of 1H-NMR-, UV-spectroscopy and mass spectrometry. In the course o...
